Paul M. Franklin

PaulPaul has been a professional photographer and writer for over twenty years. His work has appeared in numerous national magazines including Yankee, Woman's World, WoodenBoat, Travel America, Coast to Coast, Motorhome, AAA Car and Travel, Harrowsmith, Vista USA and others.

He has photographed and co-authored (with his wife and partner, Nancy Mikula) Backroads of Florida (Voyageur Press, 2009) Backroads of South Carolina (Voyageur Press, 2007), and South Carolina's Plantations and Historic Homes (Voyageur Press, 2006). He has also contributed to several recent large-format travel anthologies including Journeys of a Lifetime; 500 of the The World's Greatest Trips (National Geographic, 2007) Where to go When; Best Destinations All Year ‘Round (DK Travel Guides, 2007) and Where to go When; The Americas (DK Travel Guides, 2008).

His photographic credits include the Barnes and Noble Complete Guide to the Public Parks and Gardens of Washington D.C., Our Washington, D.C. (Voyageur Press) and numerous AAA publications. Recent photographic projects include The Top 10 Guide to San Antonio and The Top 10 Guide to Mexico City (DK Travel Guides). He is the author of the AAA Spiral Guide to Washington D.C. and co-author of The Eyewitness Guide to Canada, and The Eyewitness Guide to the Southwest USA.


Paul has produced high-quality photographs and text for a wide variety of commercial clients, including advertising agencies, tourism destinations, marketing agencies and many others. His assignment and stock travel images have appeared in brochures, posters and marketing literature, as well as print advertisements in major publications such as Geo, National Geographic Traveler, Yankee, Audubon, National Wildlife, Smithsonian,  the Toronto Star and Boston Globe.


When he and Nancy are not traveling, they enjoy living in their hundred-year-old farmhouse in the Blue Ridge Mountains north of Asheville, North Carolina. There they garden, hike, write, work on their new website (www.asheville-mountain-magic.com) and develop new ideas for books and magazine articles. They are assisted in these endeavors by their newest family member, Cloe, a spirited tabby cat who showed up at their door one rainy night and never left.

Paul is a member of the American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP), and the American Society of Travel Writers (SATW). .








Nancy Mikula



Nancy Nancy Mikula is the author of three books in the award-winning DK travel guide series: Top Ten Guide to Santa Fe and Taos; The Top 10 Guide to San Antonio and The Top 10 Guide to Mexico City. Her articles on travel, historic and human interest subjects have appeared in numerous magazines in the U.S and Canada, including Maturity, Leisureways, Canadian and Writer's Digest.

She has co-authored several books including the Eyewitness Guide to Arizona and the Grand Canyon (DK Guides), Backroads of South Carolina (Voyageur Press) South Carolina's Plantations and Historic Homes (Voyageur Press) and Backroads of Florida (Voyageur Press, 2009).

She has authored numerous destination articles for recent large-format travel anthologies including Journeys of a Lifetime; 500 of the World's Greatest Trips (National Geographic, 2007) Sacred Places of A Lifetime; 500 of the World's Most Peaceful and Powerful Destinations (National Geographic, 2008), Where to go When; Best Destinations All Year ‘Round (DK Travel Guides, 2007) and Where to go When; The Americas (DK Travel Guides, 2008)

She is a member of the American Society of Travel Writers (SATW).
